The paper looks at the influence of the speculative concept of liberty on the development of juridical and political thought in German classical philosophy - offering a review of some of the interpretations proposed in two volumes recently published: "Diritto naturale e filosofia classica tedesca" (ed. by L. Fonnesu - B. Henry, Pisa, 2000) and "La libertà nella filosofia classica tedesca" (ed. by G. Duso - G. Rametta, Milano, 2000). The essay deals particularly with the constitutive connection between nature and right in Fichtean "Rechtslehre" and in the same time it stresses the basic divergence between K. Düsing and G. Duso about the role of subjective autonomy in Hegel's "Philosophy of Right".
