"Structural Equation Modelling" (SEM) is a useful tool for complex phenomenon explanation in psychological research. The aim of this paper is to provide some guidelines to understand the basic steps in model testing inside this multivariate analysis technique. A research about school achievement at high school is reported in order to illustrate model specification, identification, goodness of fit testing and respecification.
