The aim of the essay is to illustrate how streamlining the process of acquiring citizenship can serve as an effective short-term instrument strategy to mitigate the impact of demographic decline. Italy and Germany have both witnessed comparable demographic shifts. Nevertheless, Germany has been actively reforming its citizenship acquisition procedures since 1999, with ongoing effort to make them even more accessible. In contrast, Italy’s process remains notably inflexible. The findings emphasize the success of policies adopted in the German Federal Republic and underscore the difficulties in addressing a phenomenon as intricate as the birth rate in Italy.
