This paper analyses the issue of the legal recognition of linguistic minorities in Greece, with particular reference to the specific case of the Arvanites. The lack of any form of protection or legal recognition of minorities in the Greek Constitution is the starting point for a reflection on the constitutional value of the legal recognition of “othernessµ and consequences of this “silenceµ in the European context. The case of the Greek arbërore offers the opportunity to understand how pluralism is still an open issue.
