The child relocation is defined as the lawful transfer of a child by one parent with the consent of the other. Child relocation cases could generate a lot of controversies. The growing number of families with transnational elements and the development of the concept of the family itself reveal new problems. The article aims to demonstrate the growing importance of child relocation. To this end, it is proposed to provide a brief analysis, following a timeline, of the instruments adopted at the international level and aimed at preventing and resolving related disputes. More precisely, Hague Conventions of 1980 and 1996, the Washington Declaration, the Council of Europe Recommendation and finally the Brussels IIb Regulation of the European Union will be considered.
