The paper offers an overview of the contacts between Islam, on the one hand, and family law and children's rights in Italy, on the other. This mapping highlights the possibilities and limits of dialogue, identifying principles which should prevail over the right of Muslims to live differently in Italy. In parallel, a diachronic perspective and reference to best practices shows the emergence of an intercultural alternative to polarization between cultural assimilationists and cultural exceptionalists.
