In this essay the author illustrates the main traits of the European Union's new institutional model. In particular, by focusing on the management tools of new economic governance, he strives to analyse the impact of the reform on national constitutional systems. Furthermore, the paper sets out a number of dilemmas the EU has had to face since theoutset of the economic slump and the public debt crisis.
