The author begins considering the idea, progressively self imposing in socio political language, that workers rights are part of a wider right to dignity. In the light of this assumption he analyzes domestic and international sources pertaining to protection of dignity, particularly with reference to social matters. The conclusion reached is that dignity is a concept too uncertain to constitute the base of a system of positive rights; therefore under Italian legal order, its meaning is to be assessed mainly in the negative, as a limit to the exercise of companies rights.
