The author proposes some remarks about the relationship between labour law and labour market; the existence of a set of norms regulating employment and labour relations determined the existence of "labour markets" which never attained the model of a "perfect market". The guarantees which characterize the present regulation of labour market are influenced by the legal evolution of most recent decays, by the debate about a possible sustainable evolution of labour law and mainly by the demands of "flexicurity" raised by the Eu legal system. The author reminds several guide-line of reforms proposed for labour law in order to face the challenges of the present situation, and foretells a rationalization of the market which could make easier the transition ("transitional labour market") from employment to employment, and a new social model capable of guaranteeing the professional status of citizens.
