This paper deals with I.S. Bloch's thought. Bloch ( aRussian economist, 1836-1901) in his book "Modern Weapons and Modern War" tried to formulate a theory in wich economy rules the conduct of war. In order to achieve his goals he forecasted in 1898 the First World War in successfull and detailed way. His "prophecies" concerned not only the battefield results but the economic and politic consequences of a future war. The core of his analysis is the relation between economic development and military technology. He hypotetised that only technology matters in understanding warfare rules but also that the results of wars had to be investigated in what he called "Economic Endurability" od States. Bloch is highly regarded by some scholars of strategy but his ideas on "industrial war" are not fully disentangled.
