This article explores the relationship between Italy and Japan in the history of art education. The relationship is not bidirectional, but rather unidirectional. This is because the role of Japanese art and education in the pre-modern world was very limited. Of course, the role of Ukiyo-e and Rimpa school in revolutionizing Western painting and crafts is well known as «Japonisme», but it was primarily a French, Austrian, and British movement. The influence of Japonisme in Italy is relatively small. On the other hand, while the Italian educational system and philosophy have played a significant role in world history, their influence has been limited, especially in the field of art education since the modern era. Japan is no exception. For this reason, this paper focuses on the relationship between Italy and Japan, a relationship that is not often discussed in world history or educational history, as below.
