The word “matterµ usually translates the concept of hýle used by Aristotle to define the matter as one of the causes. It is interesting, that previously Plato, in the Philebos, conceived hýle not as a cause, but as the product of cause. Therefore, in the Timaios, Plato doesn’t use hýle to mean what could be one of the elements which constitute the origin of the universe, but, related to the Demiurge who is inspired by the Goodness, other concepts like anánkeˉ, meˉ´teˉr, choˉ´ra, which could be conjecturally apprehended only through a combination of bastard reasoning and oneiric vision
