This paper aims to show that narratives have a transformative power, both for the narrator and the narratee for two reasons. The first is because stories are a tool to achieve a purpose and modify reality and thus oneself, and the second is because constructing a story is a highly transformative act in a physical, mental, and social sense. First, the different functions performed by stories and how they involve profound modifications in human life will be described. Then it will be examined how the act of creating stories is a highly transformative process both in the moment of telling and in the moment of trying to understand what others tell. Finally, in the last part, the problems associated with these transformations and what the conditions might be that can direct them in a positive or negative direction for human growth will be considered.
