The Epistle to the Hebrews is replite with biblical quotations and arguments using figures and themes from the Jewish Scriptures, but its discussion of prophets is muted, and the use of prophetic texts is rarely preeminent. The Epistle opens with a programmatic statement of how God spoke through both prophets and a Son in 1:1-2, yet the author says little about the identity of the prophets here or later in 11:33-38 in his recital of faithful exemplars. Moreover, the author makes more frequent use of biblical quotations from Psalms and the Pentateuch than from the Prophets. I examine both issues in this article.
