The present paper aims to determinate whether we are allowed to speak about the “Immanuelµ in Isaiah 7:14 LXX in terms of a “signµ, as is the case in the Masoretic Text. A reflection about what is precisely meant by using the word “signµ in the Bible and an examination of the differences, especially on the syntactic level, between the two versions seems to invite us to consider that the role of the child to be born is not identical at all in them and to see the “signµ of Isa 7:14 LXX not in the child, but in the “King of Assyriansµ in Isa 7:17.
