As a small editor, the author recalls lights and shadows of the sector: its resiliency and successes during the COVID-19 crisis, the peculiar relations and reputation of its companies, their editorial choices and supply with the readers, as well as their weakness in terms of capital and dimensions, business model, research and development. As mainly microcompanies and family businesses they are traditionally concerned with public policies choices in terms of financial support not just to survive, but even to receive a trasparent aid for innovating and growing business choices. The author suggests that the small publishing houses would be considered as a ‘coopetition’ industrial district
