The essay analyses the question of the presence of utopian thought in medieval culture, particularly in literary culture. It starts by comparing two essays that are distant in time but significant on the subject, also because of the date of publication and the history of their authors: Franti¨ek Graus (1967) and Jacques Le Goff (1989). The presence of a utopian thought in the medieval culture is verified as the removal of a cultural battle conducted by Christianity against the concrete utopias of the ancient world, and the possible permanence of this removal in the modern world is delineated, especially in the cultural culture
