Lisciani-Petrini situates the book within the crisis of contemporary political institutions, in part inadequate to the complexity of current needs and in part challenged by the resurgence of reactionary and pathological tendencies. Mezzadra emphasizes the importance of giving centrality to the dimension of conflict, asking Esposito not to neglect conflict theories and practices such as those developed by feminist reflection and those linked to a critique of political economy. Panattoni proposes to smooth out the dichotomy between destituent power and instituent power, thus allowing an instituting declination of the concept of power to emerge.
