The essay begins by analysing the challenges faced by today’s education sector: competition from digitally native platforms, profound changes in the learning modalities, an increase in the number of communication codes, «informal partnerships» but, more importantly, a crisis of belief in the concept of truth and the central nature of both authorand subject. To rethink education, philosophy and civic education must introduce reality’s contradictory signals into the school system. We propose a type of thought that accepts and takes on itself both difference and differences. It is a multifaceted theme that encompasses the humanities, social sciences and political science but also scientific disciplines. It is a type of thought that envisages education as a bridge in two meanings of the word. First, as a way to overcome anachronistic barriers within itself (the distinction between various «disciplines») in favour of a cognitive pluralism and as a critical way of thinking that offers civil society as a whole an important chance to grow. And, secondly, as a bridge to open up to the outside world. In the latter meaning, the education process assumes an ethical role and contributes to teaching a type of citizenship that becomes citizenship that is not indifferent.
