While Covid-19 has dramatically exposed the longstanding structural weaknesses and salient failures of the current global health governance, particularly with reference to the WHO and its difficult role in a fragmented multi-stakeholder landscape, the evidence emerging from the traumatic pandemic displays two significant, and concomitant, trends. The first is the consistent disaster of neoliberal values and tools applied to global private health during the Coronavirus crisi, despite insistence by the multilateral institutions on the ideology of the roll out of markets in global health. The second is the world’s dire need for a robust, credible and intergovernmental institution that may serve the goal of health for all, thanks to a reclaimed and recovered multilateralism, essential for the new pandemic era the world will have to face.
