45The Kingdom of Sardinia in the 19th century can be an interesting observatory for understanding the debate on colour reproduction in printing techniques. In Piedmont in the 19th century, lithography spread thanks to the support of the Savoy court and was applied to all types of publications: from luxury books to popular prints and illustrated novels. Artists also experimented with the new technique. The lithographic technique was introduced in Piedmont in 1817 and Museums and cultural institutions sponsored it. For the reproduction of works of art, however, the methods of traditional chalcography were preferred.
