220In the European Union, digital privacy is regulated by the General Data Protection Regulation. However, a privacy paradox persists between users’ privacy attitudes and visible public behaviour, between privacy ideals and post-privacy stances, and between the privacy of the living and the privacy of the dead, or post-mortem privacy. What is most lacking in addressing the complex issues involved in digital privacy is not adequate legislation, but a culture of hybrid identity that holds together online and offline life and an adequate understanding of the various conceptions of privacy and the different ways in which privacy affects the living and the dead. The paper explores these issues from the perspective of digital ethics.
