The paper discusses the archives under two aspects: as sets of documents and as entities that store sets of documents. Withregard to the first aspect, the paperdiscusses the increasingly shared conception of archives as elements ofcultural heritage.With regard tothe second aspect, the paper examines the mission of the archives aimed at spreading culture, as well as theirlegal organisation, particularly according to the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (d.p.c.m.) n. 169/2019.
