The paper presents the experience of the Sociology Week carried out in Italy inthe last three years, which has involved almost all of the Sociological Departments.The first aim is to claim the role of sociological knowledge towards the profoundsocio-economic, cultural and identity transformations taking place. The secondgoal is to emphasize the specific role of the University as an institution that dialogueswith the contexts in which it is inserted. The Week was therefore a way tounderline an assumption of responsibility for academic knowledge towards its severalaudiences, highlighting the link between the public role of Sociology and thepublic role of the University.
