The author links the psychoanalyst’s vulnerability to necessary receptiveness of the analysand’s unconscious communications, especially to the analyst’s being available to accommodate «the other’s wish to be understood» in his diversity and his inexpressible suffering. This receptiveness, or «imprintability» makes the analyst reachable and vulnerable, exposed as he is to claustrophobic imprisonments (Fachinelli) and identity vacillations (Donnet). Enzo Morpurgo theorizes the analyst’s «essential» solitude which, via sharing and accompanying, needs a group of colleagues to take care of the analyst’s inevitable vulnerability in his presenting the problem of meeting the «other».
