The paper aims at describing the relationship between citizens and the collectivity in Rawls’s work by reconstructing the process of transformation of the individual into a moral person, one that is equipped with all the indispensable traits for taking an active part in the cooperative experience of their society. In doing so, the article refers to the third section of “A Theory of Justiceµ and his senior thesis. This latter text offers an inspiring starting-point for further analysis of the relationship between the person and the community. Finally, the topic of virtue is briefly discussed in relation to its role in the process of moral development.
