The paper focuses on Viano’s ideas on ethical theory and bioethics. Viano promoted an anti-theoretical approach to ethics and denied the universality of the moral judgments and the systematic treatment of the moral rules. Viano showed the role played by contemporary medicine in bioethical questions on birth and death, as well as the interconnections between medical care and genetics. Viano also suggested the fertility of a minimal morality inspired by an indulgent atheism in the new conditions of human choices in a secularized world.
