There are many ways in which individuals can access cultural heritage goods and get engaged with them. In this paper, we explore the economic characteristics of cultural heritage goods and relate them to participation. We consider different dimensions of cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) and heritage access (physical, participatory and digital). From the analysis of the evidence contained in the Special Eurobarometer 466 (2017), we describe individual determinants and the possible complementarities across alterative ways of engagement. Three different alternative means of participation are considered: visits to heritage institutions and sites, engagement with intangible heritage, and digital participation.
