This article seeks to make an illustrative point of the works, still in progress, for the international research project Lettres d'artiste, co-funded by the École Française de Rome. Aim of the research is to locate, list, and letters home by/to foreign artists in XVIII-XIXth Centuries Rome. Tracking bibliographical and archival data for published and unpublished travel correspondences will be useful, in future, for the creation of "handbook of sources". In these pages are summarized some of the reflections aroused in the schedulers working on letters (more than 2.500) sended or received in Rome by British, Irish and German-speaking artists, between 1750 and 1825. Particular attention is given to steps for integration in Roman art system and society; changes in travel itineraries through Europe during the years of Revolution; epistolary relationships with institutions and academies; interactions between the various national communities of foreign artists in Rome.
