This work is based on the assumption that rural development pivots on its territory: the interactive space between economic and socio-cultural elements, which if properly aligned, might ensure an income increase and improvement in the quality of life. In view of the socio-economic reality of the Basilicata Region, which has shown signs of down-turn over the last decade in employment and demographics, the results of the survey highlight that most public expenditure has been diverted toward areas more in need but at the same time particularly rich in natural and cultural heritage. In general, a positive perception of the improvement in the quality of life emerges from the survey. The ability of the territory to seize new market opportunities by taking advantage of endogenous factors in the development process is especially encouraging. In conclusion, such interventions can play a significant role in both direct and indirect incentives for the non-agricultural stakeholders and, particularly, for the rural areas in the Basilicata Region.
