282Most of the existing literature agrees that journalism may play tangible and intangible functions against corruption (Stapenhurst, 2000), nevertheless particular conditions are necessary for these functions to be carried on. This article shows that in Romania, such as in many other countries, these conditions do not exist, develop in very ambiguous and contradictory way and are always under threat. The current article looks into the way the media contributed to this situation, as media have been always considered one of the most important opinion enablers in Romania. It analyzes whether the media profession in Romania is capable to correctly convey corruption-related information and contribute to an anti-corruption mind set among their audiences.
