When individuals migrate they generate effects on both the country of origin and the host country. The magnitude and sign of the impact are difficult to study because they involve the various components of economic and social systems, the level of education and age of the phenomenon and also because in some cases we observe phenomena that are endogenous to the problem. Despite the complexity of the issue, in this short article we will try to summarize the most significant achievements in the economic literature. About the effects in the host country, we study the impact of immigrants in the labor market, the wage and employment integration, the contribution to economic growth and the impact of immigrants on social spending. For the country of origin we try to understand the effects of the reduction of human capital, the impact of return migration and remittances.
