The first part of this essay is devoted to Aristotle's conception of tragedy, as it results from his "Poetics". According to him, the most important element of tragedy is "mythos", that is, the connection of events which form the plot of the drama. The final effect of the tragedy, and its specific "edoné" - to raise fear and pity -, depend on the way the story has been built. With regard to these premises, I analyze some movies by Alejandro Gonzales Iñarritu, from the so-called «death trilogy» (above all Babel) up to the most recent movie, "The Revenant". The main feature of his opera is the ability to change the technical ways of constructing the plot, depending on the different topics developed in each movie.
