In this commentary on Arbib's paper the problem raised is the epistemic legitimacy of natural sciences of dealing with philosophical questions, presupposing the distinction between science and philosophy according to their different methodologies. The problem is applied to the topic of the soul. It is argued a sense in which neurobiology can partially approach the reality of the soul and be helpful for a better understanding of the soul conveived as an essential dimension of the human person, avoiding both materialism and Cartesian dualism.
