In an Italian inland area, in the heart of the Apennines between Rieti and L’Aquila, the Salto-Cicolano valley is a millennial land rich in history and in valuable environmental quality. The ‘casette’ with ‘regnostro’, traditional buildings linked to the pastoral uses of this territory, almost all abandoned today, are strong elements of identity of the built landscape and a potential lever for an economic recovery in the whole valley. The intention of the VII Mountain community of Lazio to favour their punctual recovery was an opportunity to study a more comprehensive and organic Plan for the integrated regeneration of rural territories (Pirter) which shifted the interest of political and institutional decision-makers from the theme of recovery of individual buildings to the regeneration of the entire area through a systemic and strategic, interscalar and transdisciplinary framework of tangible and intangible actions. The establishment of a Multifunctional agricultural park is the design solution identified to harness non-intensive agricultural use with a slow fruition of cultural/leisure/sports circuits, all activities in part already present but that the Pirter plans to strengthen, especially in terms of quality supply. The paper presents an original methodological approach to territorial regeneration, through the study of the so-called Plan structure, the identification of a Pivot action and the development of a Gis-integrated database.
