This paper gives an overview of the organization process of indigenous population in the coastal mountains of the state of Guerrero, in south-east Mexico, linked to the defense of a territory that is socially assumed as a horizon for the construction of autonomy projects. To this purpose, it highlights specific elements to understand the role of landownership in this indigenous region; and also presents the experience of the Regional coordinating committee of the Community authorities - Community police of the founding pueblos (Crac-Pc pueblos fundadores) in order to reflect upon autonomy and territorial organization as resulting also from a popular judicial system that began in 1995, right after the zapatista upraise, as one of the many consequences both of the continental movements gathered against the ‘celebrations’ for the 500th anniversary of the so called discovery of America, and of the indigenous movements which marked the end of XX century in Latin America.
