The article reconsiders the history of the Constructivist magazine ≪7 Arts≫, which was published in Brussels from 1922 to 1928 by a group of progressive artists and intellectuals coming to terms with Belgium's political, social and cultural changes in the aftermath of WW1. ≪7 Arts≫ combines a formalist approach focusing on the socalled 'plastique pure' with a more pragmatic and modernist attitude, as shown for example by the choice of the weekly 'gazette' format that seemed to be more in touch with the needs of a new society. An analysis of the magazine's articles and graphics as well as of new and unpublished sources allows for the reassessment of both the importance of the Soviet Union's influence on the publication and its role in the context of the international avant-garde.
