According to Plato, there are two kinds of Medicine: that suitable for slaves simply deleting the symptoms, since they must return as soon as possible to their work and medicine for the freemen, not only the symptoms but also the soul and family relationships. Modern medicine, dominated by technology, is likely to look like slaves’ medicine. Because even modern medicine is a medicine of body and soul is necessary to prepare future physicians with an education focused on the following points: the complexity of the medical procedure a didactic method less bound by reductionist paradigm formation attentive to not only the hospital model but also on that higher education based on ambulatory patient (method) rather than on diseases (knowledge of Pathology). It is also necessary to replace in teaching, the assumption of “absolute rationality” of an individual characterized by: endless capacity to gather information about a particular choice; ability to process information and ability to instantly calculate the optimal solution to the problem it faces. Human rationality is characterized by: limited capacity to collect and process information; inability to have all the options of choice; inability to calculate the consequences of each choice option hence the need to seek satisfactory choices rather than optimal choices (paradigm of “relative rationality”). The modern teaching of medicine really want to train doctors “for free” must have as its main objective the make each doctor a very experienced clinical, pathological knowledge but also capable of detecting multiple and often several health problems, evaluating evaluated in their entirety, and to establish a priority for action, in accordance with criteria of severity, as a matter of urgency and availability of effective treatments.
