The debate on the concept of Truth is one of the constants in the history of cinema and audiovisual. Since the first images of the films of the brothers Lumière and fantasy films of Méliès, moving images have faced the problem of the representation of reality. Therefore, the dilemma of what seems true and what is false (and vice versa) was one of the most important problem discussed. We can say that the cinema is an involuntary philosophical gym. The implied agreement established between the viewer and the director (or the author) of an audiovisual product is a powerful link even if it was never fully explored in its psychological implications. The relationship between cinema and reality has been the pillar of the “neo-realism”, a “movement” that was also cultural and moral, and that has marked the history of modern cinema, not only in Italy but all over the world.
