During the twentieth century wine trade has experienced deep transformations: new models, development of grape growing and winemaking, quality-oriented productions as a key asset for market competition. Today, great attention is paid to wine, especially for its cultural and nutrition multiform values. In this scenario very remarkable resources are related to Tuscany. For instance, the «Tuscan model» – that puts together quality, country relationship, and experimentations between tradition and innovation – has deep historical roots. The history dimension can give useful elements for a deeper evaluation of the environment complexity and new challenges that field experts are facing. Our study runs through the twentieth century events related to Tuscan viticulture and enology: from the Chianti recognition as national model, through the middle twentieth century crisis, until the more recent growth.
