The aim of my paper is to present the formal aspects and developments of Rational Choice Theory referring to its main theorems and demonstrations. I will argue for the existence of two distinctive limits of the RCT: an intrinsic limit, represented by a logical contradiction between the axioms of the theory and its social extension (Harsanyi Theorem), and an extrinsic limit, represented by the empirical objections to the very axioms of the RCT (Kahneman and Tversky’s Cumulative Prospect Theory).
