The issue of postcolonial crime imposes considerations connected to the tradition of a genre that has recently experienced a steady growth in international popularity, defined by the marked tendency to overcome the borders of national identities, and to the critical debate about the status of the postcolonial subject in our current globalised world. This essay reflects on the implications of a critical approach that has to take into account the notions of difference, otherness and interstitial spaces, applying them to a kind of narrative that is based on formulae and whose tradition has developed an intense feeling of place. It appears that the tension between global and glocal emerges in crime fiction more than in other genres, strongly positing the problem of how the borders of new crime fiction are to be traced.
