109The wooden building structures constructive technique has very remote origins, the opus craticium was yet been described by Vitruvius and it is possible to find archaeological ruins both in Pompeii and Herculaneum. It has had a wide geographical spread and a long persistence in time so that it is possible to find its traces in the various countries of the Mediterranean basin. The text focuses on the analysis of some episodes of this long cultural event with the aim to underline some of the technological development stages and document through the observation of specific architectures and the interpretation of historical texts the persistence of a construction language that is still recognizable in the building feature of the urban fabric of many European historical centers and it is therefore part of our common cultural heritage.
