In this interview Carlo Augusto Viano deals with aspects of his intellectual biography, including his first encounter with philosophy, the philosophical and cultural climate in Turin after World War II, and his relationship with figures such as Nicola Abbagnano and Norberto Bobbio. In this context, he goes back to the discussions around the so called Neo-Enlightenment and the controversies it produced. He also deals with his research in the history of philosophy, with a particular emphasis on the peculiar nature of the Italian debates. At the end, he examines his own philosophical views of ethics and its role in the public discourse.
