This essay continues the author's critical research on modernity, the nationstate and the concept of China redefined on the basis of its «internalhorizons». The keystone of the analysis is the concept of minzu, which inChinese means both nation and nationality, i.e. the many ethnic groupsthat live on the Chinese territory.
