270The paper examines the Straussian interpretation of Thucydides, by inserting it in the German philosopher's conception of the political philosophy, in particular, in relation to Plato. This shows on the one hand, the philosophical character of the political history of Thucydides, on the other, it serves as a support in reading the Platonic dialogues and clarifies the problematic relationship that exists between philosophy and politics. These are shown as mutually irreducible dimensions of human life, comprehensible only in the light of the limits they give one other. This framework is then extended by focusing on the theological-political problem as the very core of Leo Strauss's thought.
