This article, by young Chinese sociologist Lian Si, was written expressly for«Equilibri». It discusses how the middle class will hardly grow forever. Despitethe economic boom, development and consumption at a certain pointwill stop. The phenomenon, described and defined here as the «ant tribe»,is insecurity. The young Chinese are suspended between the middle classdream (owning a car and a home) and their real «new poor» condition.
