Gianni Toti (Rome, 1924-2007) was a partisan, a writer, a poet, a journalist, a translator, a filmmaker, as wellas an internationally renowned video artist. Writer of many genres simultaneously, in electronic arts he foundthe most complex and metamorphic «screen-page» for his poetical-political worlds and words. This textexplores the links between his avant-garde approach to poetry and film, his critical approach to movies as ajournalist, his place in the context of the Italian cinema, his original use found footage, his subversion of cinematiclanguage and his video-art creations as a sort of complex machine able to assume poetic and cinematicutopias.
