The following synthesis offers a critical review of ideas and questions useful to discuss about the active participation of Geography to the real economy development in the direction of the more recent European policy issues (Europe 2020, Territorial Agenda, “re-launched” Lisbon and Gothenbourg Strategies, Leipzig Chart, V Cohesion Report). The suggestion behind this review is that the multidisciplinary co-operation among researchers can become the main instrument to develop a new cohesion policy, particularly in the Geography field. It is necessary that it makes use of: analysis, data, critical judgments, policy recommendations, scenarios. These have to be able to measure phenomena (i.e. territorial cohesion, sustainable development, regional diversity for competitiveness, etc.); also taking into consideration concepts, methodologies, themes, indicators, tools and procedures.
