In the past twenty-five years, Robin Wagner-Pacifici has become one of the most prominent cultural sociologists in the United States. If there is a prominent common thread to be found in her complex and interdisciplinary research program (which blends cultural sociology, dramaturgical analysis and semiotics in a seemingly effortless way), it is the attention to how social action takes place in transitional moments, in those interstices where meaning, structures and regularities of action of interpretation seem to collapse; in addiction, it is a focus on how power is reconstructed within and outside these moments of condensation. In this interview, we touch on these and other topics from what seems to be one of cultural sociology's most exciting research programs.
